At Kloeckner Metals UK we are committed to sustainability and our parent company Klöckner & Co have pledged to follow in the footsteps of the UN Global Compact “Business Ambition for 1.5⁰ C” commitment for which we promise to undertake verifiable measures to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. In order to help us reach our goal of Net Zero emissions, from 1st October onwards, all our operations at Kloeckner Metals UK are powered by electricity that is certified to be generated 100% from renewable sources. This means that every megawatt hour of electricity supplied comes from natural renewable energy sources like wind, water and solar, with no biomass.

The electricity supplied to Kloeckner Metals UK comes from renewable sources that have achieved the certification of Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) governed by the Carbon Trust. The sources of the energy can be traced, and the certification is reviewed and provided annually to ensure ongoing conformity by the supplier. View certificate

Kloeckner has also committed to Green Gas for all our operations going forward. The green gas is certified by The Green Gas Certification Scheme (GGCS) and tracks biomethane, or ‘green gas’ through the supply chain. Under this scheme, every kWh of green gas is labelled electronically and has a unique identifier known as a Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origin (RGGO). The allocated RGGOs allow gas consumers to make the claim that they have consumed green gas.

By switching to 100% green gas and electricity, we at Kloeckner are making steady progress towards reducing our carbon footprint. This will help us to reduce our CO2 emissions and work towards achieving our goal of Net Carbon Zero. Learn more about Kloeckner Metals UK’s commitment to sustainability here.
