SHOT BLASTING & PAINTING

Kloeckner Metals UK’s central stocks business in Leeds utilises a fully automated Gietart (Kaltenbach) shot blasting, painting and drying line.

SHOT BLASTING & PAINTING SYSTEMS

RUST. MILL SCALE. IMPURITIES.

Before a coating can be applied steel has to be cleaned (shot blasted). The shot blasting process utilises a centrifugal blast wheel that projects blast media, steel shot, onto a surface at high velocity. This knocks the surface free of debris and other material.

Because of the roughness of the material every element has to be exactly balanced in order to obtain a clean and well-dried paint layer. In addition to achieving cleanliness, abrasive blasting alters the substrate from a more or less smooth surface to a uniformly textured surface this is called surface profile or anchor pattern. Surface profile is important to enable the coating to adhere to the surface more tightly.

CAPABILITIES

Both lines can handle plates and structural material up to 22 metres long, 1500 mm wide and  500mm high, the maximum weight capacity is 10 tonnes. We offer a blast finish to SA2.5 in paint colours of red and grey.
