Currently we have an opportunity in our Head Office team for a Financial Control Accountant based anywhere in the UK. Details of the role, duties and benefits can be found below:

Role overview

To assist in the delivery, maintenance and control of accounting services, for statutory, regulatory and internal management reporting.

Financial Performance

  • Assist Financial Controller in maintenance, processing and production of:
  • Month / quarter end close processes (including completion of reporting files)
  • Liaising with the third party Shared Service Centre (SSC) in India
  • Balance Sheet reconciliations (including Intercompany transactions and reconciliations) with a view to improving the defined process with the SSC
  • Collating sufficient back up to balance sheet reconciliations
  • Escalating risks and issues to Financial Controller
  • Preparing journals and associated underlying schedules
  • Analysis of data in order to identify corrections required at site level with a view to improving the underlying processes
  • Approving PO’s – checking back to budget and flagging variances as they occur
  • Overhead review and identification of budget overspend
  • Completion of and process documentation of Office of National Statistics returns (with a view to transitioning these to the SSC)
  • Preparing director sign off reports for the receivables draw down facility
  • Investigating finance queries posed by the business as and when required
  • Other adhoc work as required by the financial controller
  • Identify risk regarding GL postings, completion of reconciliations, and maintenance of data quality
  • Ensure adherence to Group Accounting Policy escalating risks and issues to the financial controller

  • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations, escalating risks and issues to Financial Controller
  • Ensure Divisional adherence to technical and regulatory accounting rules


  • Contribute to successful team culture, building relationships and helping to develop and maintain a high performance team ethos
  • Understand business objectives and targets, ensuring performance management standards are met

Performance Development

  • Proactively support and contribute to a Continuous Improvement culture within the Financial Analysis & Planning team and wider Finance Team / Organisation, ensuring that process effectiveness and efficiency initiatives are developed and delivered

Qualifications & Technical experience:

  • Relevant accounting experience
  • Studying CIMA, ACA or ACCA, or AAT qualified
  • Experience of planning and accounting delivery in a corporate environment,
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • SAP experience desirable (not essential)
  • Desired (not essential) – Construction / Metal industry background
