Westok / Ballykine combine for new Jaguar Landrover Showroom

Kloeckner Westok and structural steelwork fabricator Ballykine Structural Engineers Ltd have combined on a new largescale JLR dealership in London.

Construction is well underway on a new 5-storey showroom, which also features workshop facilities and a rooftop car park at a prominent site at Staples Corner, adjacent to the busy North Circular Road and Edgware Road. The building provides over 8,000 square meters of floor space which is designed around a central atrium to draw customers up through the showroom. At each level the primary aspect of the building is rotated to provide premium visibility from key approach roads.

Westok assisted Consulting Engineer, Mason Navarro Pledge (MNP) to develop a scheme with a combination of both Westok Cellular beams and Westok Plate Beams. At Stage 4, further detailed checks were undertaken by MNP, with Westok providing the consultant with support on the use of Cellbeam and Tekla Structural Designer.

Following appointment, Ballykine took a proactive approach to the frame design, and worked closely with MNP and Westok to rationalise the sizes of the Westok Cellular and Plate Beams. In total, the scheme comprises some 300t of Westok Cellular beams and 75t of very heavy Westok Plate Beams, with many beams weighting 10t a piece.

The new JLR Showroom builds on a series of successful projects with Ballykine covering a diverse range of sectors. In the past, Westoks have featured in landmark Belfast projects such as One City Quays and the redevelopment of Ravenhill Rugby Ground, as well as the MSCP at Ulster University.
