Westok beams in action

2017 has been an industrious year for Kloeckner | Westok, with buildings taking form in every corner of the UK and Ireland. At Kloeckner | Westok, we enjoy having the opportunity to get involved with a wide range of different and exciting projects.

This blog will cover some of our most interesting projects of 2017. Read more to discover how we’re changing the face of Britain and Ireland’s landscape.

Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin

Located in Dublin’s historic Docklands, modern and historic architecture will combine to create this 112,882 square foot riverside development. 368 tonnes of Westok cellular beams will be used for the six office floors “designed to offer a versatile, column-free workspace that can be reconfigured with ease”. No1 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay aims to be the standout headquarters prominently located in Dublin’s international business district.

Marble Arch Tower, London

In another huge redevelopment in London, Almacantar is turning a former 1960’s building overlooking Hyde Park into “an enviable residential and commercial address where the sophistication of Mayfair meets the calmness of Hyde Park”. An 18-storey residential tower is planned, along with commercial and retail offices, and an Odeon cinema. 1152 Westok plate beams will go into the £400m redevelopment, due for completion in 2020.

St Andrew’s Drive, Glasgow

A much-needed modern residential development is planned for the centre of Glasgow in the form of six new four-storey apartment blocks. 171 tonnes of Westok cellular beams will go into the £4,000,000 development. And, with easy access to one of Britain’s biggest up-and-coming cities, these apartments are sure to be a hit.

Project Mary, Bristol

With more than 110,000mof space, The Range’s new distribution centre near Avonmouth is due to be the biggest building in the south west of England and one of the largest in the UK. Costing £90 million and larger than 15 Wembley Stadiums, the warehouse will bring 1000 jobs to the region thanks to good transportation links and its proximity to the Second Severn crossing. Alongside 550 tonnes of Westok Plate beams, 16,000 concrete piles have been installed to a depth of 20 metres, due to the site’s closeness to the River Severn.

Ikea, Exeter

Swedish giants Ikea are bringing a new store to the Exeter region, adding to the 340 they already have worldwide. 361 tonnes of Westok Cellular beams and 440 tonnes of Westok Plate beams contribute to the 28km sq. development with Ikea store, car park, restaurant and crèche. The plot of land has been excavated for signs of Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements by Cotswold Archeology before the site was started.

Coventry Leisure Centre

It’s not just retail centres and housing developments that Kloeckner | Westok contribute to. A £36.7 million water park and leisure centre will replace Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre and Kloeckner | Westok are supplying 176 tonnes of beams for it. The council-owned facility will open in late-2018 and will include a water park, swimming pools, climbing walls and squash courts.

Colwyn Bay Council Offices

A new multi-million pound development has started in Colwyn Bay for the local council. With 370 tonnes of Westok Cellular beams, the council office will be 100,000 sq ft and also consist of a 354 space multi storey car park. To help promote growth in the local area, the fabricator will use their own erection team from Kinmel Bay and local company Gwynedd Forklifts to supply plant. Council employees are also expected to use local businesses.

Cambridge Research Park

A new £12 million office development will see construction company Kier Group double the size of their office space in the region and create 100 new jobs. According to Kier chief executive Haydn Mursell the “decision to invest in larger office space at the park demonstrates the continued potential for growth that we see in the Cambridgeshire and the wider East Anglia region”. 158 tonnes of Westok Cellular beams will be used for the 30,000 sq ft property.

Jersey International Finance Centre

Jersey is one of the most popular areas in the world for finance dealing and with the local finance industry making it clear that new, modern premises are needed for them to grow, plans have gone ahead for a new Grade A office space with a 520-space public car park below a new public park. 6,400m2 over six floors will be created with 200 tonnes of Westok’s bespoke Plate beams.

Thorpe Park, Leeds

Thorpe Park Leeds is an established business park with a working population of around 4,500. The next stage of development will add to the existing 800,000 sq ft estate over 1,000,000 sq ft of mixed use accommodation, and an additional 300 homes, to create one of the largest out of town business locations in the UK. The £162 million phase two development will create 100 new jobs, and 320 tonnes of Westok Cellular beams and 20 tonnes of Westok Plate beams will be used in one of the most exciting development projects in the Yorkshire region.
