Westok provided a free design service at the English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College in Hartlepool.
The redevelopment includes demolition of the existing school blocks with the aim to provide a new state of the art replacement school/college building. The new school/college will house 220 staff, teachers and 1750 pupils.
BAM Design approached Kloeckner Westok to assist with design optimisation of the steelwork frame. The scheme was engineered to provide the optimum mix of Westok Cellbeams (CB) and Westok Plate Beams (WPB). Westok cellular beams were used for long span secondary beams, whilst Westok Plate beams where used for the clear span heavily loaded roof-top plant area.
At first floor level, clear-span Westok Cellular beams carrying 200mm Hollowcore units were designed to suit the very tight headroom restriction over the corridors.
