Developing mutually beneficial relationships throughout the supply chain and combining this with excellent customer service is pivotal to what we do at Kloeckner Metals UK. Acting on customer feedback and being able to meet our customer’s requirements is integral to this and so, our operational investment continues to be important.
This outlook has influenced our most recent investment and we’re very proud to announce our acquisition of the new Adige LT14 Jumbo laser, increasing our capacity and improving our already extensive laser cutting portfolio which is based at our Dudley site.
“In addition to processing hollow section tubes, we can now also process beams, columns, split tees, angles and channels.”
This is only the 2nd Jumbo laser of its kind in the UK, with the largest laser source fitted to a dedicated tube laser in the UK. This opens up new avenues for both Kloeckner Metals UK and our customers, particularly within steel construction and fabrication, offering cutting-edge technological features. Kloeckner Metals UK will be able to assist the wider market with their steel processing requirements, including opportunities within the nuclear, off-shore and defence sectors.
The latest generation of the LT14 is the cutting edge in large tube laser processing, with processing capabilities up to 355mm and a touchscreen interface which uses an operating system that is 30% quicker than previous models. A first for the LT14 in the UK, loading and unloading are 15.5m infeed and 15.5m outfeed offering the scope to work with different, larger steel sections including beams and columns.
The main benefits of the new LT14 Jumbo laser include:
- Improvements in productivity of between 70-80%
- Shorter lead times
- Reductions in downstream assembly costs
- Allows creative design and supports innovative solutions
With a 4.5KW Rofin CO2 laser source, the LT14 Jumbo laser has the ability to laser cut 20mm mild steel and weld prep 16mm mild steel material up to 45 degrees. The LT14 is also programmed using the latest generation of Artube 3 CAD software which allows us to import full 3D models.
We spoke to Clint Jones, Commercial Director, who said:
“We are delighted with this new addition to our processing portfolio. The advantages and versatility of the new LT14 Jumbo laser processing machine will significantly increase Kloeckner’s production capabilities and enable us to better service various sectors such as construction, transport and energy markets which require larger processed parts.
Having these extensive processing capabilities under one roof allows us to offer our customers high quality parts at shorter lead times in the specifications required.”
2018 is set to be a very exciting year for Kloeckner Metals UK, as we continue to develop our product offering and value added services. If you’re interested in finding out how our latest investment could help you, please contact us here.
