Kloeckner introduces NobelClad’s bi-metallic plates

At Kloeckner Metals UK, we take pride in working with industry-leading companies. It’s these partnerships that allow us to offer our clients the highest quality when it comes to our products and services. One of our most recent partnerships is with NobelClad, the world leader in dissimilar metal bonding.

The Bi-metallic Plates that NobelClad manufacture, are renowned in the infrastructure industry for their strength, reliability and ingenuity. They are available in over 260 compatible and non-compatible metal combinations. As the largest mill independent multi-metal stockholder and distributor in the UK, Kloeckner is thrilled to announce we can now also supply NobleClad’s bi-metallic plates.

Dissimilar Metal Bonding

Bi-metallic plates are formed using Explosion Welding and Roll Bonding. Using NobelClad’s expertise, we can advise the best welding solution and the combination of metals. This will ensure high mechanical strength, thermal and electrical conductivity, metallurgical bond, prevention of galvanic corrosion and reduces the weight of the product.

NobelClad has pioneered the use of explosion welding in dissimilar metal bonding. This innovative technique enables bonding in milliseconds, reducing the amount of heat required and therefore preventing any damage that can occur to the metals during the cladding process.

Applications

NobelClad plates maintain their mechanical properties regardless of the structure and geometry. They are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes, providing design solutions for numerous industries and applications. Some typical applications include:

  • Heat Exchangers
  • Ship Building Components
  • Pressure Vessels
  • Nuclear Com
    ponents
  • Crystallisers
  • Rail Car Transition Joints
  • Molten Salt Separators
  • Autoclaves

Metal Combinations

Of the 260 metal combinations, there are some that are more commonly used than others. The Bi-metallic Plates that are less frequently used are still readily available but may require custom orders. Take a look at some of the most common and least common combinations of dissimilar metals here:
