At Kloeckner we are now stocking a range of Outokumpu Duplex Stainless Steel 2205, produced and certified to the latest Norsok standards.
Duplex 2205 is the most popular Duplex product in the market, offering excellent corrosion resistance to withstand tough use. Due to a high chromium content (the element that creates the passive protective layer in stainless steel) and nitrogen content, and in the case of 2205 also Molybdenum, this steel offers very good resistance to localised and uniform corrosion. The micro structure of Duplex Stainless Steel contributes to their high mechanical strength and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, as well as improving abrasion and erosion resistance.
Duplex 2205 / EN 1.4462 / ASTM / UNS S32205 / S31803
Duplex stainless steels are combination of austenitic and ferritic stainless, combining many of the beneficial properties of austenitic and ferritic steels.
Due to having a lower nickel content than austenitic grades which offer similar corrosion resistance, duplex prices are more stable and less volatile. Duplex grades offer roughly twice the strength of austenitic grades with similar and in some instances improved corrosion resistance which allows for thinner gauges to be used in many applications.
- Chemical processing
- Oil & gas
- Tanks and vessels
- Paper & pulp industry
- Bridge structures
- Process Plants
- Swimming pool fittings/structure…
- High strength and therefore weight and cost saving on fabrication
- Greater corrosion resistance, particularly to stress corrosion cracking
- Very little or no maintenance material
- Price stability
- Duplex is also 100% recyclable
A structure built with Duplex Stainless Steel is built to last for generations even in harsh conditions.
